WP2 - Advanced forecasting models and tools to anticipate W&C event induced impacts
LEADER: WUR
PARTNER: WUR, CFR, ECMWF, UPC, FMI, UNIGE, UOR, CIMA, AMAYA, ACA, SDIS2B, JRC.
OBJECTIVE: The main goal of WP2 is to establish the tools to forecast the hazards induced by W&C events and the resulting impacts to be implemented in the operational MH-EWS (WP3). Specifically, the objectives to be achieved in WP2 are:
- To tailor-made available meteorological forecasts and nowcasts to anticipate hazards induced by W&C events, and to combine them with existing local high-resolution models, remote sensing, local sensors, and other available local information about the real impacts through the A4DEMOS platform (WP4).
- To integrate advanced existing algorithms to forecast and nowcast hazards induced by W&C events and their associated impacts at various spatial and temporal scales for prevailing geo-climatic settings across Europe, and adapt these to be implemented in the operational MH-EWS (WP3).
- To assess robustness of the algorithms to forecast natural hazards and their associated impacts under worst-case climate change projections (frequency and severity of future extreme events) and/or coinciding natural hazards.
- To use existing probabilistic procedures to assess uncertainty of forecasted W&C event induced hazards and associated impacts considering various geo-climatic settings across Europe to support existing decision making processes and complementing and enhancing existing technologies.
